In the lead-up to COP26, the Department of State was developing content to support its climate messaging at the conference. The original plan included stock-based video, but there was a shared concern that stock footage could feel generic — too far removed from the urgency and intention of the U.S. climate strategy.
With a clear brand guide but minimal creative direction, we proposed a more design-forward solution: a graphic, collage-style animation approach that could distill key messaging into bold, visual storytelling. The goal was to make the material eye-catching, on-brand, and legible in a fast-paced environment — whether viewed on a screen in a crowded room or shared digitally.
Each video aligned with one of three priority pillars of the U.S. climate agenda. We paired clean typography and motion graphics with treated stills and data-driven visualizations — creating a style that was dynamic, digestible, and distinctly different from traditional campaign visuals. The look was fresh, modern, and deeply intentional.
The final videos premiered at the U.S. Center at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021. They became a standout feature of the Department’s in-person footprint — helping make abstract policy goals tangible for both policymakers and public audiences.
Stakeholders praised the clarity, visual consistency, and energy of the series. The pieces not only fit seamlessly into the Department’s broader messaging efforts, but elevated the look and feel of its climate communication — offering a model for future branded motion content.
