Sportrock came to us with a goal: to deepen member engagement by spotlighting the stories that define their climbing community. With locations across the region and a wide-ranging membership, they wanted to create something that felt authentic, local, and emotionally resonant — not just promotional content.
Together, we developed Community Clips, a series of short, story-driven profiles shaped by community nominations. Brian’s name came up immediately — a member since the beginning, whose connection to Sportrock spans decades. His story wasn’t just about climbing, but about belonging, longevity, and the way a gym becomes a second home.
Our approach was simple but intentional: let Brian’s voice guide the piece. We wove in archival footage to highlight the gym’s early days, captured b-roll of him climbing familiar routes, and framed everything around the culture and identity of the gym itself. We leaned into what makes the Sportrock community feel like a family — especially for long-time members who’ve seen it grow from a small local space to a pillar of the regional climbing scene.
We shot the piece over a single day, focusing on visual storytelling that climbers would instantly recognize and connect with. Rather than veer into broader lifestyle content, we centered climbing — both as a sport and a shared language among members. Brian spoke about his personal life, but always in relationship to Sportrock — and that’s where the story lived.
The final video became a standout in the Community Clips series, earning strong engagement across social platforms and sparking conversations among members. Especially for climbers at the out-of-the-way gym featured in the piece, it felt like long-overdue recognition — a reminder that their place in the community matters.
